Lara Humbert & Amèle Metlini
Living room concert
French jazz pianist, composer and arranger Lara Humbert creates music that feels like cinema: atmospheric, layered and full of unexpected twists and turns. Each piece unfolds like a story without a predetermined path. Her inspiration ranges from classical to free improvisation, from pop and rock to the adventurous worlds of Tim Berne, Mary Halvorson, Bill Frisell, Knower, Debussy ...
During an artistic retreat in the Canadian wilderness, Lara found new clarity in her writing process. It was there that she wrote the first compositions for her large ensemble, the octet I'm Not Done Cooking. She also leads her own Quartet and is active in other Brussels projects, such as Remorque (with Benjamin Sauzereau) and ARK (Lara Rosseel).
For this concert, she has opted for an intimate duo setting with her compatriot, violinist and improviser Amèle Metlini, who is also part of her Octet and Quartet.
Amèle grew up in Angers, where she studied at the conservatoire from an early age, developing a lasting hunger for adventure and innovation. She has been based in Brussels since 2016 and is constantly seeking new musical horizons. She completed her classical training in Marc Danel's class and drew further inspiration from jazz and folk artists such as Fabrizio Cassol and Tcha Limberger.
Her work often takes place in intimate, chamber music settings where original compositions and improvisation come together seamlessly. She can be heard in Remorque, the Lara Humbert Quartet, ARK, and on various albums (such as Détails by Driss El Maloumi and Le Monde Merveilleux de Pépito by Nawaris).
