Heart of jazz

The 30CC/Schouwburg is once again the heart of Leuven Jazz. You can enjoy the many headliners there, but you can also go there almost every day for a portion of young jazz talent or a refreshing jazz break.

Headliners

30CC serves up some of the most impressive names from the international jazz scene. Don't miss these headliners:

INUIT presents Vorklift & Alex Lesage

The instrumental trio Vorklift promises spicy grooves and floating sound clouds inspired by modern jazz as well as prog rock, neo-soul, hip-hop, EDM and metal. Alex Lesage brings a playful combination of electro, experimental hip-hop and jazz. (THU 9.03)

Dance

Jazz x all style battle: Freestyle jazz is linked to freestyle dance. The best dancers in Belgium compete against each other, to live music by the KAU trio with an extra saxophonist. After the battle, there will be a DJ set by DJ Fatoosan. (THU 16.03)

B-jazz

Semi-final B-Jazz + Late Night Jam: Four young Belgian jazz bands battle it out for a place in the final of the B-Jazz International Contest. The four sets are followed by a jam session. More info coming soon. (FRI 17.03)

LUCA theme combos

Together with their teachers, the students of the LUCA jazz program are once again developing a repertoire around a specific theme or icon from jazz history. In these free lunch and after-work sessions, you will receive a tribute to Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and Kenny Wheeler.

  • Themacombo For Voices Only (SAT 11.03): Led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Lynn Cassiers, this ensemble will bring an a-cappella vocal session.
  • Themacombo Joe Henderson meets McCoy Tyner (SAT 11.03): Guitarist Peter Hertmans and the students will present an anthology of the oeuvre of both saxophonist Joe Henderson and pianist McCoy Tyner.
  • Themacombo The Music of Bill Evans (SUN 12.03): Double bass teacher Jos Machtel and the students pay tribute to the iconic pianist Bill Evans.
  • Themacombo A Tribute to Kenny Wheeler (SUN 12.03): Together with the students, guitar teacher Peter Hertmans presents a selection from the repertoire of trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, who died in 2014.
  • Themacombo A Tribute to Herbie Hancock (TUE 14.03): Drum teacher Dré Pallemaerts and his students explore the enormous oeuvre of pianist Herbie Hancock
  • Themacombo Monk's Business (WED 15.03): Saxophone teacher Frank Vaganée and his students will bring a selection from the repertoire of the legendary bebop pianist Thelonious Monk.
  • Themacombo The Music of Wayne Shorter (THU 16.03): With his students, double bass teacher Jos Machtel dives into the rich and versatile repertoire of saxophonist Wayne Shorter.
  • Themacombo Bebop To Go! (FRI 17.03): With his students, saxophone teacher Frank Vaganée will introduce you to well-known and lesser-known pieces of bebop.
