Women in jazz
This eighth edition will have a keen female focus.
Singers, pianists, trumpeters, drummers ... discover the female force in modern jazz!
- Laura Jurd (SAT 21.03)
Award-winning trumpet player and composer Laura Jurd is one of the most distinctive jazz musicians to emerge from the UK in recent years. She'll present her eclectic new album 'Stepping Back, Jumping In' with her 14-piece live band.
The evening will open with a lyrical, rhythmic set by singer-guitarist Camila Meza and bass-player Or Bareket, two top talents from the New York jazz scene.
- An Pierlé Quartet (SUN 22.03)
In her new Quartet, singer-pianist An Pierlé joins forces with guitarist Koen Gisen and the youngsters from SCHNTZL. They'll present the brand-new live album 'Sylvia', an accessible mixture of jazz, cabaret and experimental pop music.
In support, the LUCA Bigband with singer Zoë Modiga will pay tribute to the music of South-Africa and Miriam Makeba.
- Isolde & Friends (TUE 24.03)
Drummer and singer Isolde Lasoen gets carte blanche to browse the rich history of jazz: from swing to hard bop, with some occasional funky horns, pieces of soul and R&B, including well-known standards and groovy instrumentals.
She gathers an all-star band and invites some fine guests, including Gregory Frateur, Bert Ostyn, Naomi Sijmons, Lubiana en Elizabeth Atieno.
- Eve Beuvens (WED 25.03)
In the company of Sam Versweyveld (trumpet) and Cyrille Obermüller (bass), pianist Eve Beuvens goes in search of the perfect acoustic balance between the instruments, the audience and the special venue at Foyer Remy.
- Camilla George (THU 26.03)
Saxophonist Camilla George is a rising star in the UK jazz scene and has played with Tomorrow's Warriors, Jazz Jamaica, Courtney Pine … She'll play in support of Femi Kuti's concert.
- Ibernice MacBean (FRI 27.03)
Black Voice Ibernice MacBean is quite the musical chameleon. She is a remarkable stage presence and feels at home in jazz, pop, soul and world music. With the Johan Clement Trio, she'll bring a fantastic repertoire full of jazz standards.
- Ka:mos (SAT 28.03)
With Ka:mos, singer Aino Peltomaa and bass player Nathan Wouters embark on a search for the musical dimensions of light and darkness. Followed by an exclusive guided tour in the expo 'Body Language'.
- Kandace Springs (SUN 29.03)
With her female power trio, singer-pianist Kandace Springs will present her brand new album (to be released on Blue Note in February). With her warm and sensual voice, she perfectly combines the vocal jazz tradition with modern R&B influences!
- Sofia Jernberg (SUN 29.03)
Singer Sofia Jernberg is a rising star in the Scandinavian free jazz scene. In duo with pianist Alexander Hawkins (Tomeka Reid, Shabaka Hutchings), she'll explore the boundaries of her voice and improvises at her heart's content.
