The fame of jazz singer Billie Holiday just keeps growing: her music receives worldwide acclaim and she's adored by all. Or almost by all, as her song Strange Fruit, denouncing racial inequality and racist violence, is an eyesore to the white political establishment. She becomes a target of the Federal Department of Narcotics, which sets up a secret operation with black undercover agent Jimmy Fletcher, hoping to catch Billie in possession of drugs. The two enter in an unexpected and tumultuous relationship.

R&B singer Andra Day had some big shoes to fill but left a phenomenal impression in portraying the legendary Billie Holiday. Her Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a leading role was more than deserved. Next to her is Trevante Rhodes, who made his international breakthrough in 2016 in the Oscar winner Moonlight.

An intense portrayal of the life of jazz icon Billie Holiday and her endless battle with addiction, fame and heart-breaking love.
