A brand new premiere at Leuven Jazz 2019: PRELUDE will join the forces of the new youth spot STELPLAATS, youth centre Den Tube, event boat Spits, artistic loft Artkom and jazz club La Conserve.
Together they will demonstrate that jazz is no dusty or difficult style, reservered to an older, serious, beardy male audience! On the contrary, it is a super diverse scene that is living an impressive ressurection. Are you into electronics? Or more fan of urban styles? Still rather classical and highly-strung? ... It's all jazz!
One ticket will grant you access to four locations and some challenging bands, carefully selected by and for a younger audience. The evening gets a double finale: a jazzy party on two boats: Spits and Den Tube. All are welcome, also the older beard-wearers.
- venue: STELPLAATS (catering available)
• 16.00 - 22.00 h: Record Fair - Guitar Doctor - Food - Skatepark - ...
• 19.00 - 20.00 h: 2 Times Nothing
2 Times Nothing is a quintet that effortlessly combines jazz and electronics. Super talented, but with both feet solidly on the ground: one in the rich jazz world, the other in the club scene. Think STUFF. or Four Tet ...

• 20:30 - 22:00 h: LUCA Jazz vs Urban Woorden jam vs open mic
During one of the monthly LUCA School of Arts-jams at STUKcafé two slammers spontaneously joined the band on stage, creating a perfect mix of jazz & words. In 2019 Urban Woorden - a socio cultural organisation with a passion for poetry, rap and performance - celebrates its 10th birthday. Youth centre Den Tube also focuses on ‘spoken word’ and hip hop ... so the combination of these three elements was quite logical... A marriage parfait.
- venue: LA CONSERVE
• 20.00 - 21.00 h: Spookhuis (originally planned in Artkom)
• 21.30 - 22.30 h: Hi Hawaii
"Dominating synths, a cathcy beat and above all an instrumental diversity which makes wonder how these two musicians manage ..." An eloquent review by Belgian music site Dansende Beren on Hi Hawaii (formerly know as Geroezemoes). Jens Bouttery (drums, synths, voice) and Lennart Heyndels (bass, synths, voice) flawlessly navigate between free jazz, pop music and improvisation.
- venue: SPITS
• 20:30 - 21:30 h: Pak Yan Lau
• 22:30 - 23:30 h: Zwerm electric guitar quartet
Zwerm celebrates its 10th birthday and questions its musical profile with each new project. Similarly with its new record, 'Badminton in Tehran', where they experiment with a musical core element as groove. With producer Rudy Trouvé they open themselves to influences such as Sudanese roots music, experimental kraut rock, riffs by punk band The Ex and rhythms by industrial machines. In May, they will play two gigs at the Barbican in London. Only a few Belgian bands have preceded them here.
