Chantal Acda & The North Sea Drifters - Silently Held
Praised for the gentle power of her music and her spontaneous songs with an open character, Chantal Acda is one of our most beloved singer-songwriters. Throughout her career she has collaborated with an international array of like-minded people, including Nils Frahm, Chris Eckman, Peter Broderick, Low, Isbells and Marble Sounds.
Acda’s 2024 album, Silently Held, follows previous musical adventures including Let Your Hands be My Guide (2013), The Sparkle In Our Flaws (2015), Bounce Back (2017), Puwawau (2019) and Saturday Moon (2021). Each album has received worldwide acclaim. At 30CC, she is a familiar name in the programme. This year too, she could not be missing from the festival.
In the quiet embrace of music, Chantal reveals on Silently Held a raw and authentic display of vulnerability, where every flaw and feeling is held close. With every note and word, Acda creates a space where imperfection is not only acknowledged but celebrated, creating a deep and intimate connection between artist and audience. The album sounds like a testament to the beauty to be found in the proximity of our flaws and emotions, inviting us to embrace them with grace and authenticity.
Chantal went to New York to record with celebrated musician and producer Shahzad Ismaily. Eric Thielemans, Kurt van Herck and Niels van Heertum joined from Belgium, and Bill Frisell, Thomas Morgan and Colin Stetson also collaborated. The band touring with her is called The North Sea Drifters for the occasion.
Naima Joris & Vitja Pauwels - album release show Enjoy The Silence
A fairytale story from the tough music business. With no ambition to ever be on a stage, Naima Joris taught herself the basics on guitar and piano – just enough to play and sing the covers that appealed to her heart at home. From her attic, she captured the hearts of many lonely listeners during the harsh corona times. Her voice enchanted and soon she was picked up to sing along with Isbells and Raymond Van het Groenewoud. Her father, jazz musician Chris Joris, dragged her on stage as a guest singer in his band.
In 2021, she debuted a first self-titled EP with deep, intense songs that try to give a place to the pain and sorrow at the loss of someone dear. This was followed by the title of Radio 1 Belpop Promise, an MIA nomination for Breakthrough of the Year and the full CD While The Moon.
For the next step, she goes back to the beginning. Accompanied by guitarist Vitja Pauwels, she plunges into the disarming covers that got her started. Well-known and lesser-known Southern European traditionals, French chansons, English songs ... always in a beautiful, melancholic setting: La Vie en Rose (Edith Piaf), Sodade (Cesária Évora), Marieke (Jacques Brel), Wicked Game (Chris Isaak), Je suis venu te dire que je m’en vais (Serge Gainsbourg) ... and of course Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode).
Caoilfhionn Rose
Gondwana Records presents Caoilfhionn Rose (pronounced Keelan Rose), the prodigy on Matthew Halsall’s label. Her music is like a star on a clear night. Her gentle melodies and warm sounds are reminiscent of folk music legends of the past.
With Awaken and Truly, Caoilfhionn has already made two excellent and rightly acclaimed albums, but now she raises the bar even higher with her enchantingly beautiful and at times fairytale-like third album, Constellation. Rooted in a world of folk, jazz and all the classical melodies of the 20th century, her music seems to create a magical, otherworldly space of her own imagination.
Energetic and ever curious, Caoilfhionn Rose has found a voice that is at once ancient and modern, fearlessly exploring contemporary technology to bring traditional songcraft into the 21st century.
