Due to the Covid restrictions, the B-Jazz International Contest is cancelled also this year.

Instead, you can enjoy five exceptional online concerts that present the winners of the five most recent editions in combination with a young, promising Belgian jazz formation. Thus, we maintain the international aspect of B-Jazz and at the same time offer a stage to Belgian jazz talents. All sets were recorded live, but without an audience.

Daahoud Salim Quintet (ES & NL)

Winners of the B-Jazz International Contest 2017.

From the jury report:

“The presentation of the band and their music is different and special in a good way. They handle the band in a nice way: by standing at the side of the stage when not playing, they give each other room to play and explore. It’s lovely to see mature musicians with a message, a smile and good interplay. The band has good music with excellent arrangements and besides good musical technique, they express emotions in a beautiful way. The Daahoud Salim Quintet is really a joy to listen to and they made the members of the jury and the audience very happy.”

Support: Nagløed (BE)

Nagløed could have been the crossover project of Thom Yorke, Nils Frahm and Mark Guiliana, but instead three guys from Ghent started this sonic adventure in 2017. An EP, a lengthy live session on Youtube and some 50 shows later, this trio released its full album ‘NowHere’ on September 8, 2019.
Nagløed unites jazz, pop and film music in a blend of floating layers. With a mix of guitars, Rhodes, drums and electronics, the band creates intimate moods through stills and open compositions. Yet, they are equally capable of introducing the grooviest of vibes, combined with some vocals and soulful chords.

These three gentlemen explore the many possibilities of their setup together in symbiosis. Creating a fragile universe with a profound, pulsing vibe underneath. During their live performances, they provide you with the essence of what music means to them: a world of sounds where you become wonderfully lost.
