Ghent-based singer-songwriter, vocalist and pianist An Pierlé has been writing her unique artistic story for over two decades. In 2017, the youngsters of SCHNTZL crossed her path, when they recorded their first cd with producer (and An's husband) Koen Gisen.

The frequent hanging together in the kitchen where An Pierlé provided them with food, made them eager to play music together. This collaboration was, in the simplest of jazz traditions, labelled the An Pierlé Quartet.

Pierlé's compositions are deliberately left completely open to leave enough room for experimentation and improvisation but are also solid with the clear steadiness and hooks in the melodies. The result is a colourful melting pot of ideas: from jazz over cabaret to experimental pop music, with a twist.

In the meantime, the Quartet provided Fabrice Murgia’s acclaimed theatrical-cinematic show ‘Sylvia’ (Théâtre National – Artara – De Munt) with a much-appreciated jazzy and spherical, but occasionally wild, soundtrack. In November 2019, the live album ‘Sylvia’ will be released in a limited vinyl edition.

‘Leuven Jazz’ gives you the chance to discover this album and this brand new Quartet.
