40 Years Igloo Records
Let’s celebrate! Belgian jazz label Igloo Records just turned 40! A milestone in Belgian music history! For this birthday concert at Leuven Jazz, we invite guitarist Philip Catherine in an all-star formation. He’s joined on stage by pianist Éric Legnini, only for the second time in their careers, drummer Antoine Pierre, trumpeter Jean-Paul Estiévenart and Thomas Bramerie on double bass.
This birthday concert will focus on Belgian saxophonist Jacques Pelzer and will also be accompanied by some exclusive Igloo re-releases on vinyl.
Support: Elina Duni & Rob Luft
Swiss-Albanian singer Elina Duni (ECM) combines traditional Albanian folk songs and jazz. For this new project, she is joined by guitarist Rob Luft, acclaimed as one of the rising stars of London's flourishing contemporary jazz scene. Luft's playing incorporates echoes of West African high-life, English folk and indie rock, and his joyously original sound finds an ideal counterpart in Elina Duni's vocals. Together, they take you on a journey through timeless folk songs which still resonate so truly today.
Extra: lecture Marc Van den Hoof
Prior to both concerts, former radio presenter Marc Van den Hoof will focus on Charlie Christian, one of the icons of the jazz guitar.
