Themacombo Joe Henderson’s special Treatment
As every year, Leuven Jazz presents a series of theme combos by the jazz department of the LUCA School of Arts. Together with their teacher, the students work out a repertoire around a certain theme or a well-known figure from the history of jazz.
Saxophonist Frank Vaganée, together with the students, delves into the repertoire of tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson. Henderson began his career alongside hard-bop pianist Horace Silver, but his playing soon demanded a more ambitious context. Under his own name, he recorded several iconic albums from the 1960s to the 1990s (including Page One, Inner Urge and Mode for Joe) and impressed in the formations of Kenny Dorham, Herbie Hancock and Freddie Hubbard, among others.
