In the cosy Oratoriënhof, you’ll be treated to an intimate concert by vocalist Kirsten Cornwell and guitarist Tim Finoulst.
Kristen Cornwell (1967) is an Australian jazz singer. She got her bachelor in jazz in 1989 at the Australian National University (Institute of Arts). More than ten years after the beginning of her career, she came to Belgium to get her master degree at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
She started a quintet with four splendid musicians: Pascal Schumacher (LUX) on vibraphone, Frederik Leroux (B) on guitar, Dennis Frehse (D) on drums and Christophe Devisscher (B) on bass.
She’s not only working on her own projects but also teaches at the conservatories of Mechelen and Gent. She released several albums in Australia and Belgium, such as Distant Skies and Duke Ellington’s Sound of Love.
Tim Finoulst (1986) graduated summa cum laude in 2010 from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Hendrik Braeckman and Martijn van Iterson. He followed masterclasses with Peter Hertmans, Hans Van Oost, John Scofield, Fabien Degryse, Serge Lazarevitch, Jonathan Kreisberg, Hilmar Jensson, Nelson Veras, Philip Catherine, Wayne Krantz, Ari Hoenig, Charlie Haden, Anders Jormin and many others.
With The Circle he played in the summer of 2009 at Jazz Middelheim with Mark Turner as a guest soloist. During his studies, Tim formed the Sullivan Street Trio and ended 4th place at the international Jazz Contest Jazz Hoeilaart in 2011. In July 2013, he won the Dinant Leffe Jazz Contest with singer Kim Versteynen. In 2017, he won the Maastricht Jazz Awards with his trio.
As a teacher, he is connected with the Art School Musart of Hasselt and the music school of Hasselt.
